 ABOUT WOMEN IN MUSIC NATIONAL NETWORK

WomeninMusic.com is an online community that provides business information and networking assistance to women professionals in the music industry.  Founded in 1993 by two women (Karen Jackson & O'Hara Smith), WomeninMusic.com was created as a venue for sharing information gained through their experience of being in the music industry as a business owner and music business consultant.   

Today, WomeninMusic.com  has grown to serve over 1 million women  in the music business worldwide and inspires over 50,000 unique visitors each month. In February 2003, WomeninMusic.com launched a new membership-based networking community offering members more opportunities to connect with like-minded entrepreneurs who can help grow their businesses. The network provides resources that attract thousands of women and men in music related businesses.

Women's earning power is escalating:
They comprise over half of all college students and about 38 percent of small-business owners, according to 2002 figures from the Bureau of Labor Statistics. A February 2002 study by Prudential Financial found that, of the 400 American women surveyed, 37 percent live in households with incomes of $500,000 to $100,000 and 12 percent live in households with more than $100,000 in annual income. Nearly half of adult women are solely responsible for spending and saving money for their households.
